Introducing DCC Waterbeds XC, ACT's upgrade to the 3rd generation isolated-chamber cow waterbed, extra comfort for your free-stall bedding

Expanded isolated water chambers ensure even more support and coverage for knees and hocks when the cow is laying down

Advanced Comfort Technology, Inc., is proud to bring dairy producers an upgrade to the third generation isolated design of dairy waterbed technology.  The extra comfort (XC) offered by the new design will provide the most comfortable free-stall bedding solution, yet. The expanded water chambers offer even more comfort for the cow's knees and her body, with the ultimate in cow comfort, consistency, cushion, and support.

DCC Waterbeds ISO®, with two independent chambers have been providing comfort to cows around the world since 2013. DCC Waterbeds float the hocks, knees, and udder.  They are a proven, comfortable alternative to deep- bedded sand or solids. The DCC Waterbeds XC design offers even more comfort for the cow when she’s in the lying position by expanding the water flotation surface area of the bed.

"We found an opportunity to expand the lying space while maintaining the long-life performance of DCC Waterbeds.  The XC design provides extra comfort for the cow by expanding the water chambers," said Scott Hartwell, CEO and Managing Partner of ACT, Inc., and designer of DCC Waterbeds XC. "With DCC Waterbeds, no other bedding system has been in barns for 20 years and has dairy producers saying that they look as good as day one. DCC Waterbeds are built to last, and the ISO XC is built for maximum comfort."

Unlike traditional flat mats, water can never pack, ensuring long lasting comfort. Unlike deep bedding, DCC Waterbeds are consistent every time a cow drops to the laying position. DCC Waterbeds help simplify manure management while providing proven high levels of cow comfort and support.

Headquartered in Wisconsin, Advanced Comfort Technology, Inc., is a second-generation, family-owned company that distributes DCC Waterbeds® worldwide. ACT, Inc., has been improving dairy cow comfort by providing waterbeds for cows since 1999. Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom organizes and hosts virtual tour of Sarah and Rick Ahlgren's milking robot barn

OCTOBER 29, 2020

Visit Ahlgren Dairy near Darwin, Minnesota.

Darwin, Minnesota, is home to the largest ball of twine, and it’s also the community where Ahlgren Dairy calls home.

Meet dairy farmers Rick and Sarah Ahlgren who recently invested in their farm to add robotic technology. During the tour, learn how the new technology helps their family care for the cows, the environment, and the community to produce a safe, sustainable and nutritious product.

Sarah and Rick Ahlgren show us their milking robots, cows laying on DCC Waterbeds, the feed kitchen and the poop vacuum. Robotics, automation and cow comfort are the highest priorities on the Ahlgren Dairy. They live on the farm with their 6 children in Central Minnesota.

Thank you Sarah and Rick for the tour and Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom for organizing and hosting the virtual tour (Virtual Field Trip-Ahlgren Dairy).

Many thanks to our local dealer, Leedstone, for the continued support of the Ahlgren Dairy Farm.

A few of my favorite sections in the video tour:

4:30min: How do you know when a cow is happy and comfortable?

Rick - "Cows are very friendly and curious....if she laying down chewing her cud, she is healthy and happy."

5:15min: Rick talks about the cows laying down on DCC Waterbeds, and how the water moves with the cow.

31min - Rick and Sarah talk about their favorite part of dairy farming.

What are your favorite parts of the tour?

NY Animal Agriculture Coalition discusses waterbeds for cows with Hemdale Farms in New York

The bedding that farmers utilize on their farms has been something that has been pretty different among the farms we've been visiting. This is interesting because there is no right way to do things on a dairy farm. Instead, farmers focus on what works for them and their cows. The folks at Hemdale Farms in Seneca Castle choose to allow their cows to sleep and relax on waterbeds in their barns. Meet Farmer Dale who will tell you more today.

At the time of Hemdale Farms & Greenhouses' first installation of 300 waterbeds in 2001, it was our largest single farm installation.

With almost 20 years of working together (and additional installation/projects), we're proud of being a part of Hemdale's commitment to long-lasting cow comfort.

"[Waterbeds] are very environmentally friendly...[and] keep the cows very healthy and happy," Farmer Dale said in this NY Animal Agriculture Coalition video.
